BRIAN CONNOR O'FLANNIGAN,

You are hereby informed that the 1st Maryland Inf. Regiment Commander has appointed you:

2ND LIEUTENANT

in the Provisional Army in the service of the Confederate States to rank as such from the First day of February two thousand thirteen.


Immediately on receipt hereof, please to communicate to Regimental HQ through the messenger, your acceptance or non-acceptance of said appointment; and with your letter of acceptance return to Regimental HQ the OATH, herewith enclosed, properly filled up, subscribed and attested, reporting as the same time your age, residence when appointed, and the state in which you were born.

Should you accept, you will report for duty to 2nd lieutenant T. B. Harp to take post of Regimental Quartermaster.

Dear Lieutenant Harp,

In respect of the order provided by you today, I would like to express my deepest appreciation and honor for the trust granted by you and the 1st Maryland Infantry Regiment.

As required, I am willfully accepting the appointment of both the rank and the post, and wish to assure you that I will beyond any doubt perform at my very best and will go above and beyond my obligations to our beloved Confederacy.

Please be advised that my home state is Virginia, where I am still residing now in the city of Fredericksburg and I am 35 years old.

I would like to proceed to my duties immediately, if possible.

I, Brian Connor O’Flannigan, do solemnly swear, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Confederate States of America, and that I will serve them honestly and faithfully against all their enemies or opposers whomsoever; and that I will observe and obey the orders of the President of the Confederate States, and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to the Rules and Articles of War.
